TECTYL 185GW GRAY CALCIUM SULFONATE Corrosion Preventive Compound
The Tectyl 185GW Gray is a solvent base gelled calcium sulfonate corrosion preventive compound cut back with mineral spirits. This premium coating is designed for long-term protection providing remarkable abrasion resistance, weathering/corrosion, and sound dampening protection in marine, tropical and industrial environments.
Tectyl 185GW calcium sulfonate coating is a non-tacky, wax-like film that is firmer than Vaseline but not hard like a candle. The film dries to a wax-like semi-firm film that is semi-gloss in appearance. Premium grey film will repel water to prevent moisture related wear and corrosion, self-heal, and retain flexibility at low temperatures.
In its uncured state, Tectyl 185GW is gel-like and becomes more fluid with mixing and agitation. Allowing for much easier application, spreading, and flow during product use.
Product Uses
- Grey-colored Abrasion Resistant Undercoating for the protection of package delivery step vans, municipal transportation equipment, truck beverage bodies, and original equipment manufacturer (OEM) trailers.
- Effective protection of used transportation equipment with less than perfect substrates.
- Can be applied to battery terminals for insulating purposes.
Product Performance:
- Semi-firm and flexible wax-like film that will repel water, self-heal and remain flexible at low temperatures.
- When applied at the recommended wet film thickness of 8-10 mils over the surface profile, it will deposit the recommended dry film thickness of 4-5 mils.
- Dry to touch in 8-10 hours, weather resistant after 6 hours, and fully cured after 12-24 hours.
- Covers 160 square feet per gallon when applied at the recommended film thickness.
- A dielectric strength of 800 volts per mil of coating allows application between dissimilar metals preventing galvanic corrosion between contacting metals.
- Grey coating is easily identifiable during equipment inspections on both new and used surfaces.
- Can provide up to 5 years of protection on both wood and metal substrates at the recommended film thickness.
Application Equipment Recommendations:
- Pumps with ratios of 15:1 or greater are advised for efficient use of container content.
- Tungsten Carbide Nozzles Tip in the spray gun is recommended. (.017" to .025" tip orifice size)
- High Pressure Fluid Hose of no less than 3/8 in. diameters is suggested for less than 50 ft. of material hose.
- Low Ratio pumps (15-30:1): operate through 100 ft. of 1/2 in & 50 ft. of 3/8 in. hose for a max of 150 ft.
- High Ratio pumps (>30:1): operate through 200 ft. of 1/2 in & 50 ft. of 3/8 in. hose for a max of 250 ft.
