Tectyl 506G Translucent Wax-Based Rustproofing Compound for Long-Term Automotive Primed & Unprimed Steel Protection
Tectyl 506G is a premium solvent based, gelled, and oxidized petrolatum wax-like corrosion preventive cut back with mineral spirits formulated specifically to provide a high-quality, long-term protective film for automotive primed or unprimed steel.
The firm, flexible, and non-tacky film of solvent based Tectyl 506G offers exceptional resistance to abrasion, weathering, and corrosion on wood and steel substrates.
Tectyl 506G is thixotropic, meaning its uncured state has a gel-like consistency that becomes more fluid or ketchup-like in texture with mixing and agitation. This characteristic allows for significantly easier application, spreading, and flow during product handling.
This premium quality rust inhibitor will dry to a translucent, amber-colored wax-like film that effortlessly repels water, can self-heal, and retain film flexibility in lower temperatures.
Product Uses
- Translucent Wax-like Rustproofing and Abrasion Resistant Compound providing superb long-term weathering and corrosion protection for both automotive primed and unprimed steel.
- The Corrosion Inhibiting film’s non-tacky trait provides exceptional adhesiveness along with its durability and flexibility when applied to metal and wood substrates.
- Effective protection of used transportation equipment with less than perfect substrates.
Product Performance:
- When applied at the recommended wet film thickness (WFT) of 10-12 mils over the surface profile, it will deposit the recommended dry film thickness of 4-5 mils.
- Dry to touch in 2-4 hours, weather resistant after 4 hours, and fully cured after 24 hours.
- Covers 180 square ft. per gallon when applied at the recommended dry film thickness (DFT).
- High Temperature Flow Point minimum of 300°F means no undercoating on your garage floor or driveway at elevated temperatures.
- Can provide up to 2 years of protection on both metal and wood substrates at the recommended dry film thickness.
Application Equipment Recommendations:
- Pumps with ratios of 15:1 or greater are advised for efficient use of container content.
- Tungsten Carbide Nozzles Tip in the spray gun is recommended. (.017" to .021" tip orifice size)
- High Pressure Fluid Hose of no less than 3/8 in. diameters is suggested for less than 50 ft. of material hose.
- Low Ratio pumps (15-30:1): operate through 100 ft. of 1/2 in & 50 ft. of 3/8 in. hose for a max of 150 ft.
- High Ratio pumps(>30:1): operate through 200 ft. of 1/2 in & 50 ft. of 3/8 in. hose for a max of 250 ft.
