Tectyl 846 Class I Transparent, Water Displacing Wax Corrosion Preventive Compound QPL Approved Mil Spec MIL-PRF-16173E Grade 4, Class I
Tectyl 846 is a Qualified Product Listed (QPL) for Govt Designation MIL-PRF-16173E; Grade 4, Class I, formulated to also fulfill the requirements of MIL-P-116J, Type P-19 Specifications.
Contrary to Class II, Class I indicates this product is higher in Volatile Organic Content/Compounds (VOC), exceeding 2.8 lbs. per gallon (340 grams/liter).
Tectyl 846 is a firm, solvent-based, water-displacing wax corrosion inhibitor compound cut back with mineral spirits designed to provide superior long-term protection of in and outdoor corrodible metal parts with/without covering during storage and transportation.
Tectyl 846 will cure to a transparent, amber, firm wax film that is non-tacky granting a clean and convenient solution for effective corrosion prevention while preserving the integrity and appearance of the applied surfaces.
Tectyl 846 is the ultimate protection for long-term storage or shipping of manufactured cast and forged steel roles used in various rolling industries.
A perfect choice for long-term, high-quality corrosion prevention for a wide range of application requirements in vehicle rustproofing, protection of general machinery and spare parts in long/short haul shipments and storage.
Product Uses:
- Translucent, Amber-Colored, Corrosion Preventive Coating recommended for corrosion prevention for a variety of metal applications such as automatic parts, dies, tubing, machine polished rolls/tools, as well as machinery or spare parts exposed to indoor and outdoor conditions during domestic/international shipments and storage.
- Protects highly polished cold rolled steel and paper calendaring mill rolls during shipping.
- The transparent film permits easy visual inspection of mill roll surfaces for hardness and surface imperfections prior to shipment.
- Will NOT stain silver or silver-plated materials.
- Class I Volatile Organic Content/Compounds (VOC) exceeds 2.8 lbs. per gallon (340 grams/liter).
- Removal is possible with mineral spirits (or another similar petrolatum solvent), hot alkaline wash, or low-pressure steam.
Product Performance:
- When applied at the recommended wet film thickness (WFT) of 2-3 mils over the surface profile, it will deposit the recommended dry film thickness (DFT) of 1-2 mils.
- Dry to touch and weather-resistant in 4 hours, and fully cured in 24 hours.
- Covers 818 square ft. per gallon when applied at the recommended film thickness.
- Can provide up to 2 months of outdoor protection and 5 years of indoor or undercover protection on metal substrates at the recommended dry film thickness.
Application Equipment Recommendations:
- Pumps with ratios of 15:1 or greater are advised for efficient use of container content.
- Tungsten Carbide Nozzles Tip in the spray gun is recommended. (.015" to .017" tip orifice size)
- High Pressure Fluid Hose of no less than 3/8 in. diameters is suggested for less than 50 ft. of material hose.
- Low Ratio pumps (15-30:1): operate through 100 ft. of 1/2 in & 50 ft. of 3/8 in. hose for a max of 150 ft.
- High Ratio pumps(>30:1): operate through 200 ft. of 1/2 in & 50 ft. of 3/8 in. hose for a max of 250 ft.
- Can be brush or dip applied.
